Race features

The race begins with the .5-mile swim from the Granite Beach area. The 13-mile bike course is a TWO-LAP course located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. The bike course is windy and has several sharp small hills and tight turns. The 4-mile run course leaves transition and runs on single-track trails along the lake back towards Beal's Point and has 3 aid stations that will be stocked with water, Clif Electrolyte Beverage and Clif Shots.

Only athletes registered before NOON on Thursday April 16th will be able to pick up packets at Fleet Feet Sports.

Athletes registering AFTER 12 pm on Thursday April 16th will be only be able to pick up their packets at Fleet Feet Sports on Friday April 17th from 10 to 6 pm.

Registration
Divisions

For the ICE BREAKER Triathlon there will be 5-year age groups beginning with 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, etc. and ending with 70+ for male and female individuals. There will be Clydesdale (men over 200 lbs) and Athena (women over 150 lbs) Divisions.

For the Baby Ice Breaker Triathlon there will be 10-year age groups beginning with 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, etc. and ending with 60+ for male and female individuals. There will be Clydesdale (men over 200 lbs) and Athena (women over 150 lbs) Divisions.

Awards

First place Overall Male and Female in the ICE Breaker Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group for the ICE Breaker Triathlon. Relay Teams awards will be for the top three in each division of Male, Female, and Coed Teams.

Course Description and Map

Swim
The race will begin with a 200 yard or .5-mile swim from the Granite Beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Folsom Lake marked by the large RedBull buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 60 degrees (much warmer than usual) . Wetsuits are still recommended . The swim exit will be up the beach and on a sandy path to the transition area located in the Granite Beach parking area.

Bike
The 6.5 mile course for the Baby Ice Breaker Triathlon is a ONE-LAP Course. The 13-mile bike course for the ICE Breaker Triathlon is a TWO-LAP course. The course is located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. The bike course is windy and has several sharp small hills and tight turns. It is STRONGLY recommended that you ride the course ahead of time. Caution is advised on several of the turns as they wind through the hills and oak trees that surround Folsom Lake. After the second loop you will return into the transition area. Course maps will be available on race morning at Registration.

Run
The 2 and 4-mile run course leave the transition area and run on single-track trails along the lake back towards Beal's Point. Each out and back course has 3 aid stations that will be stocked with water, Clif Electrolyte beverage, and Clif Shot Energy gels. The finish is back at the start area at the Granite Beach.

Transition Area
The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Athletes may choose their transition spot from any of the non-reserved racks - reserved racks will be marked for Tri Clubs. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.

Bodymarking and Race Numbers

Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf.

Bike numbers must be attached and be visible on your bike at all times during the ride. Run numbers must be worn on your front when crossing the finish line.

Rules and Regulations

Swim Course - The wave start times and the age groups in each wave will be posted at Registration and the start area on Sunday morning.

Bike Course - ALL athletes MUST wear a helmet the entire time while riding their bikes. Failure to have your helmet on or buckled at any time on the bike will result in DISQUALIFICATION. This includes while riding your bike in or out of the transition area during warm-up and cool down.

Run Course - Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Exercise caution when running off of the trails, as there may be Poison Oak.

General rules - Numbers must be placed on your bike and worn on the run. Drafting is not allowed on the bike course. Riding your bike WILL be allowed in the transition area. No glass will be allowed in the transition area.

Use of headphones or other listening devices during ALL portions of the race ARE NOT ALLOWED.

Finish Line

After crossing the finish line please take a cold water or Clif Shot Recovery Drink and cool water and continue walking to allow your body to cool down.

You should remain active for 10 to 15 minutes while you are drinking and re-fueling your body.

If you need medical attention or are feeling unwell please proceed to the TBF Medical Tent or notify a TBF Volunteer that you need medical attention.

Packet Pick-up
Only athletes registered before NOON on Thursday April 16th will be able to pick up packets at Fleet Feet Sports. Athletes registering AFTER 12 pm on Thursday April 16th will be only be able to pick up their packets at Fleet Feet Sports on Friday April 17th from 10 to 6 pm.


TRI for KIDS triathlon


At TBF Racing we are committed to kids health and fitness. As part of this, we have a number of mountain bike, duathlon, triathlon and trail running races for kids in 2009 including the NEW Roseville TRI for KIDS on May 16.

In Spring:
January 24: FREE TBF Day Kids Mountain Bike Race
Feb. - March: The Chanoko KIDS Mountain Bike Duathlon, KIDS Jr. Duathlon and Trail Runs will be on Feb. 7, Feb. 21 and March 7.
May 16: NEW Roseville TRI for KIDS Triathlon

In Summer:
There will be five TRI for KIDS Triathlon races (each with two age divisions) in the summertime. These events are on June 7, July 12, August 9, August 29 and September 12.

The Sept. 12 events is both an open TRI for KIDS race plus the TRI for KIDS Championship

In the late Summer, there's the KIDS Granite Bay one-mile Trail Run on September 27.

Plus, there are many Short Course Triathlons and Super-Sprint Triathlons that are very suitable for kids. See Triathlon KIDS for a complete listing of kids only events as well as Short Course and Super-Sprint Tris.

Our TBF Racing Athlete Volunteer Program offers you a chance to get involved with events, have fun and earn a $40 TBF Racing voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events - plus free food. Pick up your RACE For FREE Athlete Voucher at the end of your shift. Complete event schedule

Spectators are welcome at the ICE Breaker Triathlon and all TBF Racing events. Spectator food and drinks will be available for sale and free coffee is available in the morning. Stop by the TBF booth at the expo and find out how you can learn the sport of Triathlon through TBF Training

Refund and Transfer Policy

TBF Racing has a No Refund policy on all of our events. A Refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus $25 processing fee. Credits will not be given during race week.

Transfers will be allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There will be a $25 transfer fee. Transfers will not be allowed during race week.
