Race Details

The Folsom Lake International Triathlon is a USAT Sanctioned Olympic Distance Triathlon taking place at Granite Bay, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area on Saturday May 11, 2013.  The race will feature a 1.5K lake swim, a 40K road bike course on local roads outside the Folsom Lake SRA traveling through scenic Placer County and will finish with a challenging 10K trail run course.  There will be an Aqua Bike option available this year with the Folsom Lake International Triathlon.

The race will be USAT Sanctioned, requiring the purchase of a $12 one-day license with USAT, or the holding of an annual membership card with USAT.

Folsom Lake International Triathlon Distance:
Swim 1.5 kilometers – Bike 40 kilometers – Run 10 kilometers.
Folsom Lake Aqua Bike Distance: 1.5km Swim and 40km Bike. 

Sunday: Mother's Day Triathlon and Duathlon

Mother’s Day Triathlon: (held on Sunday May 12 at same location) 400 yard swim – 6.5 mile bike – 2 mile run.  This includes the Mother’s Day Duathlon with a 2 mile run – 6.5 mile bike – 2 mile run.                                                                                                                                                


Fees:
Folsom Lake International  Triathlon: $80 til December 1, 2012, $90 til April 8, 2013, $100 til race day, $110 on race day
Triathlon for Junior Athletes 18 and under: $75 til April 8, $90 til race day, $100 on race day
Relay Teams: $100 til December 1, 2012, $120 til April 8, 2013, $140 til race day
Folsom Lake Aqua Bike:
$50 til December 1, 2012, $60 til April 8, 2013, $70 til race day, $80 on race day

Race morning at race venue from 7 am til 9 am.

Course


Swim - The race starts from Granite Beach in Folsom Lake with a 1.5K swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be between 64-68 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach to the transition area located in the parking area.

Bike - The 40K bike course will exit the State Park and travel on local roads through Placer County. Course maps will be available on race morning at Registration. The Bike course will NOT have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area. Bike course map

Run - The 10K run course leaves transition and runs on single-track trails along the lake back towards Beal’s Point. The out and back course has 5 aid stations that will be stocked with water, electrolyte beverage, and energy gels. The finish is back at the start area at Granite Beach. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line. Run course map

Relay Teams
The Folsom Lake International Triathlon consists of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner. Entry fee includes three race shirts, athlete goody bags and post- race meals. Awards for Relay Teams will be first overall in Male, Female and Coed divisions.

Awards
First place Overall Male and Female in the Folsom Lake International Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group for the Folsom Lake International Triathlon. Relay Team awards will be for the Top three teams in each Division of Male, Female and Coed.

Transition Area - The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Body marking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.

Aid Stations:
Aid stations will be located in the transition area for athletes before the race, on the bike course, and on the run course, serving cold water, energy gels, and electrolyte beverage.

Equipment:

Expected water temperature for Folsom Lake will be 62-68 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc... are not allowed.

Competitor Goodies:
Included for each competitor is a Folsom Lake International Triathlon tech-tee race shirt, athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar, Emerald Nuts and other product samples.

Post Race Athlete Food:
Included for each competitor is a post race meal of hot pasta with meat and vegetarian protein options, salad, fruit, cookies and beverage.

Sports Expo:
The post race sports expo will have vendors such as Total Body Fitness, TRI Addicts, Fleet Feet Sports, and Kinetic Cycles.

Athlete Massage:
Free post race athlete massage will be provided courtesy of National Holistic Institute of Sacramento and Bryan College.

Training and Coaching:
TBF Training provides group workouts and coaching for the sport of Triathlon along with individual Multi-Sport Coaching and Personal Training.
